The GGG team first heard rumours of the exciting new thunder range three months ago at Farm Fantastic in Brisbane.
We have been waiting to get our hands on it ever since.
The three month wait was worth it. The thunder Weekender power box has certainly delivered.
What is the Weekender? Essentially it is a power station for your camp site. With the capacity to take up to 180 amp hours, this sturdy kit has every thing you, and a few things some die hard campers will say you don’t.
There is one critical part in any 12 volt system… The monitoring. You can read more about why this is so important, just <click here>. This section the Thunder Auto Weekender delivers in an astounding way.

An easy to read gauge quickly gives you the state of power system including voltage, amp draw and remaining capacity… You can read about why this is so critical here: <Click Here>
I can’t say enough about this monitoring system, it is hands down the best solution we have seen in one of the portable 12 volt systems.
You can use this to monitor your live power consumption and your solar input . No longer will you be left wondering if your solar panel is in the best position to deliver all its power.

Located next to 12 volt meter is another tick on the must have box, the Weekender box also comes with a 2.1 amp USB socket.

[pullquote cite=”” type=”left”]Interestingly the USB outlet has an isolation switch. Something we have not seen before.[/pullquote]

We are told the isolation switch is a second level protection for current draw and the unlikely event of a short out inside the plug. Given the condition some people will take this power box I think that is some good piece of mind.

Power outlets galore

Now i am not 100% on this but I am sure this weekender has the most crib lighters available of any of the 12 volt power boxes I am have. Your 12 volt gear can be connected to either the 2x  CIG style accessory sockets or the 2x merit (DIN) accessory sockets. Again your piece of mind has been considered with each one of these ports are protected by a 15Amp automatic reset circuit breaker. The resettable circuit breaker means no more scratching around the glove box while camping if you pop a fuse.

What’s a merit plug? For those of you who don’t know you may have notice at the end of some cig style plugs is a removable red cap. This reveals a smaller and more vibration resistant style of plus known as a DIN or Merit.

4 power outlets, all with weather resistant caps to keep the unwanted out, surround a high current 50am Anderson still outlet, protected by its own 50 Amp automatic reset circuit breaker, the anderson outlet can be used as your solar input or as a high current output for devices such as air compressors or fridges for those look for a more solid connection.[/text_output][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][gap size=”20%”][callout type=”center” button_icon=”align-center” circle=”true” target=”blank” title=”Thunder Auto” message=”Click here to contact Thunder Auto, wholesale enquiries welcomed” button_text=”Contact Here” href=”http://www.thunderauto.com.au/contact-us/”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none” bg_image=”70003″ parallax=”true”][vc_column width=”1/1″][gap size=”300px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column width=”1/1″][text_output]

This is cool, and a game changer!

The Weekender comes with a “Pure sine wave inverter” rated to an impressive 300 watts. Within 3 hours of setting up camp when we field tested tested  the “new Thunder Weekender portable power solution” it quickly became apparent why this is so useful.

[pullquote cite=”” type=”left, right”]Also invaluable for charging laptops, Cordless power packs and any other 240 volt device that draws less than 300 watts.[/pullquote]The “cheese and kisses” wanted to take some pics of the kids playing around the camp site (we were hitched up at Kenilworth Homestead in QLD) and realise she forgot to charge the camera before leaving. Now normally it is risking charger your lithium camera batteries on a standard inverter but with the Weekender’s pure sine wave unit it was risk free and worked a charm. You can read more details about inverters here: Pure V Modified sine wave[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column width=”1/3″][image type=”none” float=”right” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”70005″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”69890″][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”69891″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”70003″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column width=”1/1″][x_video_embed type=”16:9″][/x_video_embed][/vc_column][/vc_row]
