4WDs end up in drink on Queensland beach

BEACH drivers have been warned not to try to navigate the infamous Mudlo Rocks after the driver of a Mitsubishi Triton was swamped this week.

It is the first 4WD to be taken by the sea this spring.

Rainbow Beach 4WD enthusiasts have been lucky; the beach has been in perfect condition for the past few months. But large seas ruined that last week.

Waves and currents swept away tonnes of sand from the rocks, making the short trip treacherous, almost impossible.

A spokeswoman from the Rainbow Beach Tour Centre said the rocks were now impassable, even at low tide.

She urged drivers to use the Freshwater Track to get to Double Island Pt and Teewah Beach.

The photos of the drowned Triton were posted on The Rock Report Rainbow Beach Facebook site on Wednesday.

It didn’t take long for the comments to come rolling in.

Margaret Williams said, “darling I just washed the car for you”.

Eddie Gordon chipped in with “oh no not the Mitsubishi,” while Robbie Gray said “hand that bloke a shovel and a beer”.

“I guess he thought it was a submarine,” Geoff Pilgrim said.

Rainbow Beach business owners are hoping the sand comes back in time for the September school holidays.
